I can't get the Bokashi bin to work
Hi - I have been trying to make these things work now for about 4 months. No matter how I pack the food in, how much bran I do/don't put on, I still end up with nothing more than vaguely mouldy food.
The relatively small bins seem to fill up very quickly, trying to compress the food down just smashed the flimsly plastic filter disks at the bottom.
I do feel somewhat dissapointed with these bins, is anyone else getting a positive result?
Is there some trick to this?
Thanks
Andrew

I'm surprised this question has gone unanswered for so long
I have emailed the team directly and asked similar questions but they were ignored. There are several groups on Facebook that exchange ideas and feedback on wormeries and bokashi bins, so maybe you'd be better off asking on there since this forum seems to be mostly inactive.
When you use bokashi bran, you are effectively "pickling" the kitchen waste. It does not need to completely decompose before it is ready to use as compost. What you should see is the kitchen waste being covered in a white mould: this is a sign that the bokashi bran is working. I find chopping the waste down as small as possible prior to adding it should help it decompose faster too. If you get blue or black mould then there is too much moisture in the bin, and you need to address this.
After at least a fortnight's fermenting the waste should be ready to use.

Wow. Before I started reading these blogs, I was all set to order [bokashi + original-midi], but lack of attention to the blogs suggests lack of attention in the product-area [the old research axiom applies: "falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus"].
So .... much more research on the web before I 'worm'.
